About

Matthew is a London-based milliner whose practice explores the intersection of performance and millinery investigating how headwear shapes presence and movement. While pursuing his MA in Performance Design and Practice at Central Saint Martins in 2023, Matthew found himself continually drawn to headwear eventually realising that headpieces were central to his creative output.  Influenced by the body in motion, he approaches millinery as more than adornment, viewing it instead as an extension and silhouette that can alter the way a body occupies space.

In 2025, Matthew launched Howard Atelier a bespoke millinery brand that blends traditional craftsmanship with modern design.  He has collaborated with a range of independent designers at London Fashion Week on both physical and digital showcases.  Through The Chanel & The King’s Foundation Métiers d’Art Millinery Fellowship, Matthew continues to develop his technical skill and design language, and is developing a brand which spans both the conceptual and wearable balancing the theatrical with the timeless.
